 Chris Van Timmeren, Hope College
The 2007 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division 3 Coach-of-the-Year Award goes to Chris Van Timmeren of Hope College.
Chris will be presented his ACHA Men's Division 3 Coach-of-the-Year Award at the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach-of-the-Year Celebration on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club.
Chris completed his seventh season as the Head Coach of Hope College this year with a record of 26-4-0. This record included the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC) Tournament Championship, and a 4th place finish at the ACHA Men's Division 3 National Tournament. Including this season, Chris has led Hope to six consecutive winning seasons, and has an overall record of 149-54-7 for a winning percentage of 71% as head coach. His two assistant coaches are former Hope players Jeremy Pearson and William Schubert.
Since taking over as head coach at Hope, Chris has taken the Flying Dutchmen to the ACHA Men's Division 3 National Tournament in all six years that they have been eligible since joining the division. The six year streak is the longest in Division 3. Hope has never finished lower than fifth in the ACHA Men's Division 3 National Tournament, with three 5th place finishes, two 4th place finishes, and a National Runners-Up finish. Hope has also taken three MCHC Tournament Championships, and one MCHC Regular Season Championship in Van Timmeren's seven years. Chris has been voted MCHC Coach-of-the-Year twice in that time as well. Hope's team has a 96% graduation rate since Chris took over
Chris was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI where he played at Grand Rapids Christian High School. He is a Hope College alumnus, and was integral in starting Hope's hockey team as a junior. He played two seasons at Hope before graduating with a bachelor's degree in Geology. Chris began coaching as an assistant at Hope during the 1999-2000 season, and took over as head coach the following year, making for a total of 10 years with the Hope program. Chris currently resides in Holland, MI and works in sales.
