ACHA M1 RANKING CONCLUDES WITH MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY CAPTURING ITS THIRD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

AMERICAN COLLEGIATE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION MEN’S DIVISION-I HOCKEY RANKING CONCLUDES WITH MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY CAPTURING ITS THIRD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Beavers Defeated Two-Time Champion Adrian College 1-0 in Final

 

UNION LAKE, Mich. – (April 25, 2023) – Top-seeded Minot State University (30-2-0) defeated Adrian College (35-3-2) 1-0 in the 2023 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship Game to secure its third national title and first since 2019.  Davis Sheldon, a forward from Minot State University who had two goals and three assists in four games, was named the Joe Battista Tournament Most Valuable Player.  En route to the final, Minot State won three consecutive one-goal contests including back-to-back overtime wins, defeating University of Michigan-Dearborn (8-0), Indiana Tech (4-3 OT), and Liberty University (3-2 OT).

 

Despite the loss, Adrian College, regular season and playoff champions of the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL), finished at No. 2 and played in its third National Championship Game and have made the semi-finals five times.  Ohio University (30-6-2), regular season champions of the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL), played in its ninth semi-final game over the past 23 seasons and finished at No. 3, while Liberty University (17-11-2) played in its second semi-final game in the past three tournaments, third semi-final overall, and finished at No. 4.  Finishing in the Top 5 for the second consecutive season was No. 5 University of Nevada-Las Vegas (25-4-1).

 

With the conclusion of the ACHA’s 32nd season, there have been a total of 14 schools that have won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship:

The Western Collegiate Hockey League (WCHL) leads the way with seven (of 10) of its member teams ranked, while the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) has two (of 3) of its member teams ranked, the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL) has four (of 8) of its member teams ranked, the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) has four (of 9) of its member teams ranked, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has three (of 7) of its member teams ranked, and Midwest College Hockey (MCH) has two (of 6) of its member teams ranked.

 

Moving into the polls this week is No. 24 University of Rhode Island while dropping out of the Top 25 is Colorado State University.

 

A total of 70 teams competed in Men’s Division I this season, while 71 teams will compete in Men’s Division I next season including University of Mary, which moves up from Men’s Division II.

 

The 2024 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships presented by FloHockey will be hosted March 7-12 for the second time at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.  This will be the twelfth year of the 20-team format.
