FAYETTEVILLE, AR – October 12, 2025 – The University of Arkansas Ice Hockey Club faced its toughest test of the season this past weekend, splitting a two-game series against the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers at home. The Razorbacks suffered a game one loss on Friday but bounced back with a narrow 4-3 victory on Saturday to defend their home ice.
Game 1: Nebraska 4, Arkansas 1 (Friday, Oct 10)
The first matchup was a challenging night for the Razorbacks, who fell 4-1 despite dominating the shot chart (49 to 25). Nebraska’s goaltending proved difficult to beat, and their special teams were decisive.
Arkansas’ lone goal came at the 7:27 mark of the second period, scored by Jack Lehman. He was assisted by Sabre Koleber and JD Duenwald. However, the Cornhuskers capitalized on two power-play opportunities, and the Razorbacks’ offense went 0/3 on the power play, leading to the team’s loss.
Game 2: Arkansas 4, Nebraska 3 (Saturday, Oct 11)
Arkansas showed great resiliency in Saturday’s finale, defeating Nebraska 4-3 in a hard-fought contest. After a scoreless first period, the Razorbacks’ offense took over the second, scoring three power-play goals.
Anthony Conti opened the scoring just six seconds into the second period with a power-play goal, assisted by Captain David Markovich. Later in the period, the power play struck twice more, first with Bryson Andregg scoring a one timer (assisted by Alex Fendler and Cole Helm), and then minutes later with Sabre Koleber tallying his second point of the weekend (assisted by Ayden Frolik and Brayden McDonald).
The game remained tight after Nebraska scored two power-play goals in the third. Alex Fendler sealed the crucial home win late in the third period with an empty-net goal, assisted by Jack Lehman. The Razorbacks’ special teams were key, scoring three power-play goals in the second period alone.
The win continues the Razorbacks’ winning record maintaining their strong standing in the ACHA MD2 rankings.
“That first loss was a wake-up call, but I’m proud of how the team responded,” said Captain David Markovich. “We knew we had to play a full 60 minutes on Saturday. We got back to our game plan, put the pressure on early in the second, and found a way to win. We showed a lot of character this weekend.”
Next Up for the Razorbacks
The Razorbacks immediately turn their attention to a crucial two-game series against the University of Illinois at home next weekend. The first game faces off on Friday, October 17, at 7:30 PM CT, followed by the second contest on Saturday, October 18, at 3:15 PM CT. Both games will be played at The Jones Center in Springdale.
