MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State Beavers men’s hockey team shuts out Midland University for the second straight game with a 6-0 final on Sunday, January 5. With the win, the Beavers complete the two-game series sweep over Midland, and improve their record to 20-2-3 on the season. With the loss, Midland drops to 13-13-1.
Minot State came away from the first period with a 1-0 lead, as the Beavers scored the lone goal in the period. The goal was scored by Reid Arnold on the power play at 13:51 into the period. Minot State’s goaltender, William Dyke, shut down Midland in the first period, tallying 6 saves on 6 shots on goal.
Minot State added two more goals in the second period to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead through two periods. The Beaver’s second goal of the game was scored by Reece Henry on the power play at 10:07 into the period. The third goal of the game was scored by Reid Arnold on the power play, his second goal of the game, at 15:01 into the period. William Dyke added 7 saves on 7 shots on goal to continue his shut out against Midland.
Minot State added three more goals in the third period to give the Beavers a 6-0 lead through three periods. Joey Moffatt got the scoring started for the Beavers in the third period, with a goal scored at 6:18 into the period. The next Beavers to find the back of net in the third period was Sheldin Howard scoring his first goal of the season at 11:28 into the period. The final goal of the game was scored by Matt Egan at 13:08 into the period to give the Beavers a 6-0 win. William Dyke added 7 saves on 7 shots on goal in the third period to complete the shut out over Midland.
Trenton Curtis (2), Logan Rands (2), Matthew Yakubowski, Brayden Pawluk, Austin Clyne, Logan Cyca, Reece Henry, Joey Moffatt, and Ryan Monias were all credited with assists in today’s game. Ryan Monias’ assist was his first point of the season. William Dyke led the way in goal for the Beavers, shutting out Midland with 20 saves on 20 shots on goal, improving his record to 8-0-1.
Following the two-game series sweep over Midland University, the Beavers will be back in action at home in a mid-week game against #14 University of Mary. This game is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, at 7:00 pm at the Maysa Arena for Hockey Booster Night and Youth Sports Night.
