Bivolcic dominant in goal as Cats shutout Devils

TUCSON (KVOA) — Nolan Bivolcic was fabulous in the goal Saturday night as No. 14 Arizona beat 15th ranked Arizona State 1-0 in ACHA Division I action at Tucson Arena.

The Wildcats (13-5-0-0) sweep the two-game weekend seris and have won three of the first four meetings this season against their rivals to the north in the Cactus Cup.

The victory was the 8th straight overall for the Wildcats and UA has not lost at home this season (9-0).

Anthony Cusanelli scored the lone goal of the game 4:38 into the third period. Bivolcic finished with 29 saves.

The win was a perfect cap to Alumni Weekend which saw the retirement of Jeremy Goltz #21 jersey.

Goltz (#21) will now hang from the rafters alongside fellow teammate Kelly Walker’s (#16) jersey as well as the 2018/19 and 2019/20 WCHL conference championship banners at the Tucson.

Goltz, finished his Wildcat career with the most goals scored by a defensemen with 36 goals and ranked 3rd on the all-time defensive scoring list with 98 points.

He returned to Tucson after his playing career to serve as an IceCats assistant coach under Leo Golembiewski before eventually becoming the head coach of the Sun Devils for two seasons. At ASU, Goltz was named the 2010 ACHA Division 1 Coach of the Year.

He currently runs a youth travel hockey organization in Peoria, AZ.

The Cactus Cup will continue in the 2nd semester with four more contest between UA and ASU. All four will be played in Tucson on January 29, January 29, February 18 and February 19.
