Cougars hockey splits games

The Assiniboine Community College Cougars women’s hockey program split a pair of exhibition games in its opening weekend of play

The Cougars opened their season with a 5-1 victory over the visiting Winnipeg Silvertips at the Sportsplex on Saturday, and then underwent an 8-1 drubbing at the hands of Balmoral Hall Blazers in Winnipeg on Sunday.

Cora Fijala scored the lone goal for the Cougars on Sunday..

On Saturday, Simone Turner-Cummer and Emma Gamache each scored twice and added an assist. Aidan Roberts had the other goal for the Cougars, with Megan Beswitherick earning the win in net for ACC.

Brandon meets the Dakota College at Bottineau Lady Jacks on Friday at 6 p.m., and in a pair of games on Saturday, plays the University of Minnesota Duluth at 8:30 a.m. and the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire at 5:30 p.m. in a mini tournament at the Sportsplex that will count in the American Collegiate Hockey Association rankings.

The final will be played on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.
