Defender Hockey Heads Into Break With a 8-1 Win Over Nebraska-Omaha

Defender Hockey heads into the break with a 8-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha. The win puts Dordt at 15-3-0 on the year and currently on a 3-game winning streak. The win also wrapped up the season series with the Mavericks at 5-0 in favor of the Defenders.

 

How it Happened:

It was all Dordt at Vernon Area on Saturday afternoon. The first period finished at 1-0, but it didn’t take long before Dordt broke the scoring open in the second period. The Defenders scored 5 goals in a matter of 5 minutes in the middle of the period.

Heading into the third up 6-0, Dordt would add one more before the Mavericks were able to net one of their own. Dordt would respond about a minute later with their 8th and final goal of the game.

 

Stat Summary:

Nathan Fanning and Lucas Van Berkel each scored twice. Jonah Weems, Alex Espenson, Isaac Baart, and Noah Wilmes each scored once.

Zach Espenson tallied 3 assists; A. Espenson had 2. Defenders with 1 assist included Weems, Baart, and Wilmes, as well as Andrew Benson, Austin Green, Austin Rosenbaum, Mason Carrels, and Bryce Swalve.

Dordt tallied 63 shots on goal compared to 22 shots on goal for Nebraska-Omaha.

Hayden Stevens made 21 saves at Goalie for Dordt.

The Defenders will play next after the Christmas break when they host the University of Missouri at Vernon Arena on Friday January, 13th at 7pm (CST) and Saturday, January 14th at 1pm (CST). Both of those games will be live on the Dordt Media Network.
