Coming off a two-week fall break, Liberty University’s four-time-defending national champion ACHA Division I women’s hockey team took its game on the road and overwhelmed NCAA Division III Neumann University from the outset, Friday night in Aston, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.
Sophomore forward Zosia Adamek scored twice in a five-goal second period.
The Lady Flames (7-0) came away with an 11-0 triumph over the Knights, outshooting their hosts by a gaping 75-6 margin.
Liberty amassed 26 shots in the first period, while holding Neumann to just three, and the Lady Flames got goals from graduate forward Danica Polson and junior forward Brityn Fussy to seize a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Flames didn’t let up in the second, pelting Neumann with 27 more shots (to one for the Knights) and padding their lead to 7-0 with two goals by Zosia Adamek and single scores from fellow sophomore forward Haley Battles, junior forward Carly Glover, and graduate forward and head captain Shelby Bradford.
Finally in the third, Liberty outshot Neumann, 22-2, and added four more goals by senior forward and alternate captain Yannick Truter, junior forward Rianna Spanier, Glover, and Bradford.
The Lady Flames will conclude their road trip with a nearly five-hour trek across Pennsylvania on Saturday, when they will challenge Chatham College, another NCAA Division III program, with the puck dropping at 5 p.m. in New Kensington, a suburb of Pittsburgh.
