It was a festive weekend for the Hope College ice hockey team.

The Flying Dutchmen celebrated their back-to-back ACHA Division 3 national titles from last March, then skated to a pair of 6-1 wins against Calvin University.

On Friday, Hope held a pregame ceremony on home ice at Griff’s IceHouse West to celebrate the 2021-22 national championship team.

Then, the Flying Dutchmen jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead against Calvin.

Senior left wing Lucas Barber (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion HS) scored Hope’s first and final goals of the game.

The Flying Dutchmen outshot Calvin by a 50-15 margin.

Sophomore Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) made 14 saves for the Flying Dutchmen.

On Saturday, Barber struck first again for Hope and led a charge of six different goal scorers.

Senior forward Kevin Healy (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) collected one goal and two assists for the Flying Dutchmen.

Schick totaled 12 saves.

The Flying Dutchmen have allowed only one goal in four consecutive games.

Hope improved to 13-1 on the season.

The Flying Dutchmen return to the ice on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 2-3, with a two-game series against the University of Michigan’s ACHA team. It is a rematch of last season’s national title game.
