The Hope College ice hockey team skated to 4-2 and 14-0 wins against Dordt College (Iowa) at Griff’s IceHouse West over the weekend.
The Flying Dutchmen improved to 4-0 in ACHA play season.
On Saturday, fifth-year senior defenseman Niko Stamas (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Mattawan) recorded a hat trick for Hope, while senior center Gabe Gunneson (Rockford, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) chipped in two goals and three assists.
Ian MacDonald assisted on four goals. Junior right wing Jake Adams (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) and sophomore defenseman Nolan Holtrop (Walker, Michigan / Kenowa Hills) each scored twice; Holtrop also had an assist.
Freshman forward Hunter Maschke (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) collected one goal and three assists.
The Flying Dutchmen jumped to a 3-0 first-period lead, then erupted for seven second-period goals.
On Friday, junior defenseman Ashton Bol (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and senior left wing Colin Stecco (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) snapped a 2-2 tie early in the third period by scoring goals six minutes apart. Bol’s go-ahead goal came three minutes into the third period.
Sophomore goalie (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) Maclane Schick made 19 saves for Hope.
The Flying Dutchmen host Saginaw Valley State University on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Griff’s IceHouse West. Hope plays at SVSU on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 8:45 p.m. at Saginaw Bay County Ice Arena.
