HOPE ROLLS PAST MICHIGAN-FLINT

The Hope College ice hockey team pushed its season-opening winning streak to four games with 13-0 and 6-1 wins against the University of Michigan-Flint this weekend in American Collegiate Hockey Association play.

On Friday, the Flying Dutchmen jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first period and cruised to a 13-0 home victory at Griff’s Icehouse West.

Forward Gabe Gunneson recorded a hat trick to go along with an assist.

Forwards Noah Christensen and Nolan Convertini each chipped in two goals and an assist.

Goalies Lukas Schut and Ryan McClelland combined for a five-save shutout.

On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen received goals from six different skaters for the 6-1 road victory at Crystal Fieldhouse in Burton.

Forward Lucas Barber finished with one goal and one assist. Defenseman Ashton Bol registered two assists.

Goalie Maclane Schick stopped 14 shots.

Hope’s next series is Friday-Saturday, October 22-23 against Trine University. The October 22 game at Griff’s IceHouse West, which starts at 7;30 p.m., will include a pre-game ceremony where the 2021 national championship banner is raised.
