John Carroll University to Play First Outdoor Classic Game In Cleveland’s FirstEnergy Stadium vs. Canisius College

University Heights, Ohio – The John Carroll ACHA Men’s Hockey Club will host the inaugural “John Carroll University Outdoor Classic” on February 17, 2023, on an outdoor rink at Cleveland Browns FirstEnergy Stadium. The Blue Streaks hockey club will face-off against Canisius College (Buffalo, New York), marking the first outdoor venue for a John Carroll Hockey game in club history.

“We’re really excited to be a part of the Faceoff On The Lake series at FirstEnergy Stadium,” commented Scott Shantery, Head Coach of the John Carroll Hockey Club. “It’s a great chance for us to showcase our program on a much larger stage and maybe create some new fans that didn’t know that JCU had a competitive hockey program. It will be a really great experience for our players as well. These guys see the 2-3 NHL outdoor games in stadiums every year and have likely never been a part of one. This will be a memory that they won’t ever forget.”

Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m., with gates opening at 6:30 p.m.

Current John Carroll University students will be permitted entrance free of cost by claiming their ticket from Ticketmaster; a link to access these tickets will be distributed internally. For all others who would like to attend, tickets will be available for purchase on Ticketmaster.

The opportunity for the outdoor match-up is part of Haslam Sports Group (HSG) adding contests surrounding the Ohio State vs. Michigan hockey “Faceoff on the Lake,” presented by Meijer, on Saturday, Feb. 18 at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Cleveland Monsters are also scheduled for an outdoor “home” game at FirstEnergy Stadium, and HSG and Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) will also host contests during the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds of the high school ice hockey state tournament in late February and early March.

“When discussing Faceoff on the Lake, we recognized there were multiple opportunities to engage sports teams and fans from all levels of competition, as well as our entire community,” said HSG Chief Commercial Officer Eric Clouse.
