LIBERTY HOLDS THE NO. 1 SPOT FOR THE SECOND WEEK IN A ROW

TROY, Mich. – (November 12, 2024) – Liberty University (6-1-0-0) holds onto the No. 1 spot in this week’s ranking of the 2024-2025 American Collegiate Hockey Association Women’s Division 1 season.

 

This past weekend the WMCH team’s ascended on St. Louis for the annual All-Star weekend. All eight teams played 3 games each (Thur, Fri, Sat). The weekend was rounded out with an All-Star game on Sunday. The Flames kicked off the WMCH All-Star weekend with a game Thursday against No. 5 seed Midland University (8-4-1-0). The Flames beat the Warriors 4-1. Friday the Flames beat No. 2 seed Maryville University (10-5-2-0) 5-3. The Flames would round out the weekend with a 6-0 win over University of Jamestown on Saturday.

 

No. 2 seed Maryville came away with the weekend 1-2 with a win over University of Jamestown (5-0) and a 2-1 regulation loss to No. 5 Midland University.

 

No. 3 seed McKendree University beat Midland University 2-1 on Friday and lost 2-1 in regulation on Saturday against No. 6 seed Minot State University.

 

No. 4 seed Adrian College swept University of Michigan Dearborn, 2-1 in regulation, and 4-2.

 

The Women’s Midwest College Hockey League has seven (of 8) member teams ranked, while the Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association has seven (of 12) of its member teams ranked, and the Western Women’s Collegiate Hockey League has zero (of 6).

The computer ranking will determine the 10 teams that qualify for the 2024 ACHA Women’s Division 1 National Championships, which will include the following three automatic bids:

  • (CCWHA) Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association
  • (WWCHL) Western Women’s Collegiate Hockey League
  • (WMCHL) Women’s Midwest College Hockey League

 

A total of 33 teams are competing in Women’s Division 1 this season, including one new full member team, University of Arizona, and a probationary member, University of Washington.

 

The ACHA uses two computer rankings, Ranking A (Wins with goal differential of 6) and Ranking B (Wins with maximum goal differential of 1) to come up with an average of the two rankings, which determines the ranking spots for teams.

 

There has been a total of 10 schools that have won the ACHA Women’s Division 1 National Championship:

  • St. Cloud State
  • Wisconsin (2 Times)
  • Michigan State (2)
  • Robert Morris (2)
  • Lindenwood (4)
  • Northeastern
  • Minnesota
  • Miami (3)
  • Liberty (6)
  • Adrian

 

The 2025 ACHA National Championships presented by FloHockey will be played March 13-25, 2025 at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, MO. All five divisions, with more than 1,500 players from 72 teams — Men’s Division 1, 2, and 3, and Women’s Divisions 1 and 2 — will converge upon the Maryland Heights area to compete in more than 100 games. The ACHA Women’s Division I National Championships presented by FloHockey will have twelve teams competing beginning on March 17th and conclude with the Championship game on March 21st.
