LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HOLDS FIRM ATOP THE FOURTH ACHA WOMEN’S DIVISION 1 RANKING
TROY, Mich. – (December 6, 2022) – Liberty University holds onto the top spot in the fourth ranking period of the 2022-2023 American Collegiate Hockey Association Women’s Division 1. The Flames traveled to Tempe, Arizona to face No. 8 Arizona State in a weekend series, sweeping the Sun Devils 10-2 and 8-2. No. 2 Adrian College also hit the road this past weekend, sweeping Penn State by scores of 9-2 and 8-2. Indiana Tech moved into the No. 3 spot after a home-and-home sweep of Grand Valley State. No. 4 Midland University and No. 5 Minot State University split a weekend series at Maysa Arena with the Warriors prevailing on Friday by a score of 4-1. On Saturday, the Beavers earned the split with a 4-3 overtime victory.
The computer ranking will determine the 10 teams that qualify for the 2023 ACHA Women’s Division 1 National Championships, which will include the following three automatic bids:
- (CCWHA) Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association
- (WWCHL) Western Women’s Collegiate Hockey League
- (WMCHL) Women’s Midwest College Hockey League
A total of 31 teams are competing in Women’s Division 1 this season, including four new teams: University of Jamestown, Montana State University, University of Wyoming, and Lake Superior State University.
The ACHA uses two computer rankings, Ranking A (Wins with goal differential of 6) and Ranking B (Wins with maximum goal differential of 1) and come up with an average of the two rankings. This is the first year we are only using computer rankings.
There has been a total of 9 schools that have won the ACHA Women’s Division 1 National Championship:
- St. Cloud State
- Wisconsin (2 Times)
- Michigan State (2)
- Robert Morris (2)
- Lindenwood (4)
- Northeastern
- Minnesota
- Miami (3)
- Liberty (5)
The 2023 ACHA National Championships presented by FloHockey will be played from March 16 through March 21, 2023 at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts. All five divisions, in the same building at the same time, for the first time with more than 1,500 players from 72 teams — Men’s Division 1, 2, and 3, and Women’s Divisions 1 and 2 — will converge upon the Marlborough area to compete in more than 100 games. The ACHA Women’s Division I National Championships presented by FloHockey will have ten teams competing beginning on March 16th and conclude with the Championship game on March 20th.
