LIBERTY UNIVERSITY WINS ACHA WOMEN’S D1 NATIONAL CHAMPION FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT YEAR

TROY, Mich. – (March 21, 2023) – The American Collegiate Hockey Association wrapped up the Women’s DI 2023 National Tournament presented by FloHockey with the Championship game between No. 3 ranked Minot State University and No. 1 ranked Liberty University.

Coming into this game, the teams have had 3 matchups this season. The flames had won 2 of the 3 games by scores of 4-1 and 4-0. The Beavers won the last matchup, 4-3 in regulation. The teams are both members of the Women’s Midwest College Hockey League which also includes, No. 2 ranked Midland University, No. 8 ranked McKendree University, No 6 ranked Maryville University, Lindenwood University, University of Minnesota, and University of Jamestown.

In the first period, the beavers would strike first. The power play goal was scored by Megan Norris, her second goal of the tournament, assisted by Denali Sigurdson and Paige Ackerman. The flames would answer the call with a power play goal scored with just 52 second remaining in the first period. The goal was scored by defenseman, Madison Glynn with the assist from Shelby Bradford. At the end of the first period, the game was tied 1-1.

In the second period, Liberty would score again to take a 2-1 lead. The goal was scored by Madison Glynn, her second of the game, assisted by Rianna Spanier. Flames would head into the second intermission leading 2-1.

In the final frame, Madison Glynn would complete her natural hat trick to give the flames a 3-1 lead. The goal was unassisted. With just 3:32 remaining in the regulation, Riley Ball would tip in a shot from Jordan Kulbida with Paige Ackerman also assisting on the goal. The beavers outshot the flames 31-25.

Liberty University would go onto win their 5th straight National Championship, their 6th in program history. Most Valuable Player of the Tournament was awarded to Madison Glynn of Liberty University.
