Playing against Maryville for the second time in three days, women’s ACHA ice hockey completed a sweep of the Saints in Women’s Midwest Collegiate Hockey (WMCH) action with a 3-1 victory Sunday evening at the Maryville Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Missouri.

The Lions took a 1-0 lead on the first career goal from Madison Teague on the power play with 4:10 left in the opening period.  MacKenzie Drost earned the only assist on the play which was set up by a Maryville holding penalty.  Lindenwood returned the favor midway through the second when the Saints scored a power play goal at the 9:22 mark after a Lions infraction, but the 1-1 tie would not last long.

Less than two minutes later, Rylee Gee sounded the horn off a feed from Kennedy Frank at 11:12 to make it 2-1 Lindenwood.  Just 91-seconds after that, Hallie Fisher increased the margin to 3-1 with help from Nikki Lillies at the 12:43 mark.  The Lions defense clamped down after that and didn’t yield another score, even with Maryville pulling the goalie for the extra attacker in the final minute.

The Saints outshot Lindenwood 30 to 27, but Emily McDonald stopped 29 of the 30 pucks she faced to earn the win in goal for the Lions, who improved to 8-2-1 overall and to 4-1-1 in the WMCH conference.  It was also the seventh straight victory for Lindenwood.

The Lions have another busy weekend November 12-14 when they host Grand Canyon University for a single contest on Friday at 9:30 p.m. and Midland University for two games in the WMCH.  The puck drops against the Warriors at 9:30 p.m. Saturday night and at 5:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon with all three games taking place at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
