M2 Lindenwood Wins Three over the Weekend

Men’s ACHA Division II ice hockey swept a two-game series against Aurora University with a 9-0 victory Friday night and a 6-2 win Saturday afternoon, then shut out Texas A&M 12-0 Sunday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

Stanley Lucas led the Lions with a hat trick in the opening game of the weekend against the Spartans. His line mate Josh Linn added a goal and two assists, and Jack Radley had three assists. Declan Carter recorded his 100th career point with an assist on a goal scored by RJ Hart in the third period. Michael Errico earned his first shutout of the season by stopping all 26 shots that he faced as Lindenwood outshot Aurora 61-26. The Lions went 1/3 on the power play while holding the Spartans scoreless on four man-advantage chances.

Lindenwood completed the two-game sweep against Aurora Saturday afternoon, displaying depth in the process as six different Lions scored goals and 12 players earned at least one point in the contest. After trailing 2-1 late in the second period, Lindenwood answered with five straight goals, including four in the final period alone. Dylan Bak earned the victory in goal with 19 saves on 21 shots as the Lions outshot the Spartans 56-21. Lindenwood went 1/5 on the power play while holding Aurora scoreless on three chances.

In the first ever meeting against Texas A&M, the Lions shutout the Aggies Sunday night to complete the three-win weekend. The Lions jumped in front quickly with five goals in the first period, then added three in the second, and four more in the third. Freshman goalie Justin Grenon recorded his first collegiate victory as he stopped all 21 shots he faced as Lindenwood outshot A&M 59-21. Sean McMahon led the offense with four goals and an assist while Declan Carter earned five assists in the game. In another display of depth, 15 different Lindenwood players earned at least one point.

With the three wins, the Lions improved to 14-4-0 overall and finish the fall campaign with an 11-1-0 mark at home, the only loss coming against the Maryville Division I squad. They return to the ice to host the Lindenwood Winter Classic by JOG January 5-7. The Lions will face North Carolina State University that Thursday at 7:40 p.m., Trine University Friday at 2:30 p.m., and Davenport University Saturday at 3:40 p.m., with all games taking place at the Centene Community Ice Center.
