M3 Hope Splits with Aquinas D1 to Open 2024-25 Season

The Hope College men’s hockey team earned a split on home ice during the opening weekend of its final ACHA Division III season.

The Flying Dutchmen topped Aquinas College’s ACHA Division 1 team, 8-4, on Saturday after losing, 3-2, on Friday. Both games were played at Griff’s IceHouse West.

On Saturday, Hope secured the victory with three third-period goals after both teams scored four times during the second period.

Freshman center Ryan Jaros (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central HS) and freshman left wing Seve Litz (Washington Township, Michigan / De La Salle Collegiate) topped the Flying Dutch with one goal and two assists apiece.

Freshman goalie Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hills, Maine / Saint Ignatius College Prep) made 25 saves.

On Friday, Aquinas snapped a 2-2 deadlock by scoring with 2 minutes, 15 seconds remaining in the second period.

Hope tied the score with second-period goals from freshman right wing Dylan Smith (Valencia, California / Learning Post) and junior defenseman Austin Ieuter (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow).’

The Flying Dutchmen received 35 saves from senior goalie Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler).
