MO STROEMEL RETURNS TO ACHA AS COORDINATOR OF AMERICAN COLLEGIATE DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE

Stroemel will also serve as ACHA’s Assistant Special Projects Manager

TROY, Mich. – (December 19, 2025) – The American Collegiate Hockey Association, the governing body for non-NCAA collegiate hockey in the United States, announced today that Mo Stroemel has been named as Coordinator for the American Collegiate Development Conference (ACDC) and oversee both the men’s and women’s ACDC programs.  In addition to his role as ACDC Coordinator, Stroemel will also serve as the ACHA’s Assistant Special Projects Manager.

Stroemel has been involved in some way with the ACHA since 1994 when he became Assistant Coach at M2 Penn State University.  Stroemel served as assistant coach at Penn State before taking over as Head Coach in 1997.  He remained in that position until 2003 when he stepped down to assist with Penn State’s Men’s Division I program.  As Head Coach, Stroemel amassed a record of 131 wins, 62 losses, and 12 ties, while taking the team to the ACHA National Tournament four times.

In 2007, Stroemel took over the head coaching duties for Penn State’s women’s hockey team, leading the team to a fifth-place finish at the 2010 ACHA National Tournament.  His Penn State team also appeared in the 2011 Eastern Collegiate Women’s Hockey League Final Four.

From 2011 through 2013, Stroemel assisted with the transition to elevate women’s hockey at Penn State from the ACHA to the NCAA, acting first as Associate Head Coach and later as Director of Hockey Operations.  He helped to standardize and codify hockey operations and provided his template to the Penn State men’s NCAA hockey program as well.

Stroemel has twice served as Head Coach of the U.S. Women’s University Team competing at the Winter World University Games.  At the 2011 WWUG in Erzurum, Turkey, Stroemel’s team finished fifth in the international competition.  Two years later at the 2013 WWUG in Trentino, Italy, Stroemel’s team stunned Russia in the opening game and directed the U.S. Women’s University Team through the tournament to a bronze medal finish, the first medal ever awarded to the United States for hockey at a Winter World University Games.

Stroemel retired from coaching in 2017 with a record of 250 wins, 129 losses, and 15 ties as head coach through two divisions.  Stroemel most recently served as the ACHA’s Director of Hockey Operations from 2017 through 2020.

Professionally, Stroemel is a nationally recognized Theatre Technical Director who taught at Penn State for 24 years.  He is also a part-time entertainment rigger in Nashville and is an ETCP Certified Theatre Rigger.

Stroemel graduated from Penn State in 1980 with a B.A. in advertising and earned his M.F.A. Theatre degree from Penn State in 2002.  A performing songwriter, Stroemel has performed as both a solo artist and with a band in Nashville, Philadelphia, London, Toronto, State College, and Naples, FL.  Stroemel resides in Nashville with his wife, Joan, and has two adult children, Sarah and Tom.

“Mo’s long history and deep understanding of the ACHA make him an ideal addition,” said ACHA Executive Director Craig Barnett.  “The ACDC men’s and women’s teams are in great hands with Mo nurturing the way for them.  We are honored to welcome Mo ‘back to the band.’”
