Kelly served as General Manager and Head Coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 1988 through 2006.  While leading IUP, Kelly developed teams into national contenders at both the ACHA Men’s Division 2 and Men’s Division 3 levels, and amassed an overall record of 406 wins, 227 losses, and 51 ties.

Kelly’s IUP teams won 11 regular season conference championships and four conference playoff championships, and appeared in a total of 18 conference playoffs and 14 conference playoff championship games.  Kelly also led IUP to ten ACHA National Championship tournament appearances, including two trips to the ACHA Men’s Division 2 National Semi-Finals.  In 2004, Kelly was recognized by the ACHA as the Men’s Division 2 National Coach of the Year.

Kelly earned a Master Level coaching certification from USA Hockey and served as a General Manager and Coach in the ACHA Men’s Division 2 and Men’s Division 3 All-Star Challenge events as well as an Evaluator for the ACHA M2 and M3 Select Teams.  He previously served on the ACHA Executive Board as M3 Vice-President from 2003 through 2010.

A graduate of Penn State University, Kelly was also a scholarship varsity basketball player for Penn State and was commissioned with the Army ROTC program.  Kelly passed away in March 2020.  His wife, Marianne, and son Nicholas, live in suburban Philadelphia.  His son, Sam, and daughter-in-law, Sarah, live in Lancaster, PA.
