UNLV Hockey capped off an impressive weekend at the Chicago Classic with a dominant 2-0 victory over the University of Mary Marauders on November 23 at Canlan Sports.
The win marked the Skatin’ Rebels’ tenth straight and secured a clean sweep of the tournament.
The Rebels came out with strong puck movement, dictating the pace from the start. Bradley Golant opened the scoring late in the first period, tipping in a shot from the point by defenseman Dillon Kuntz. Jaxsen Wyatt also contributed with a secondary assist.
UNLV doubled their lead in the second period at 7:27, when Heath Mensch capitalized on a rebound. Justin Stathopoulos’s initial shot was turned aside, but Mensch buried the loose puck for his sixth goal in as many games.
Both teams tightened defensively in the third period, with neither side finding the back of the net. The Rebels showcased their discipline, successfully killing three penalties while their power play kept pressure on U-Mary’s defense.
Goaltender Jeremy Forman was stellar in net, turning aside all 18 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season. U-Mary’s Marino Rameriez stood tall under heavy fire, stopping 26-of-28 shots.
UNLV’s passing game shone throughout, creating high-quality scoring chances and keeping the Marauders on their heels. The Rebels’ cohesive effort, combined with their depth and strong special teams, continues to make them a force this season.
