Specialty units key 31st straight win for Marauders, a 4-0 victory over the Lions

MANDAN, ND – The University of Mary specialty units carried the two-time defending national champion Marauders to their 31st straight win, a 4-0 victory over visiting Lindenwood University to open homecoming weekend. It is the 8th shutout in 11 games for UMary.

The Marauders scored a pair of power play goals and held the Lions scoreless six times with a man advantage in a meeting between two of the premier programs in American Collegiate Hockey Association Men’s Division 2.

UMary remains undefeated against Lindenwood in five meetings as the Marauders own four wins and a draw, including a 6-1 victory in the 2022 ACHA M2 semifinals.

Seth Cushing opened the scoring at 11:16 of the first period with his team-leading 5th goal of the season. Alec Flicek picked up the assist.

UMary doubled its lead in the second period on John Dapron’s second Marauders goal of his career. Flicek picked up his second helper of the night and Johnny Witzke his first on Dapron’s goal just 48 seconds into the middle stanza.

The Marauders salted the game away in the third with a pair of power play goals. With assists to Andrew Huber and Garrett Freeman, Tanner Eskro scored his 2nd goal this season at 4:19. Less than eight minutes later UMary scored again with a man advantage as Isaiah Thomas’ goal pushed the Marauders lead to 4-0. Jaren Hugelen and Cushing both had assists.

Cushing finished with a goal and an assist and Flicek had a pair of assists.

Kyle Hayden was perfect in net for UMary to earn his fifth shutout of the season. The All-American stopped all 27 shots he faced. Ethan Paulin-Hatch also had 27 saves for the Lions.

Both teams were whistled for six penalties with the Lions racking up 15 penalty minutes and the Marauders 12. UMary was 2-for-6 on the power play. Lindenwood was 0-6.
