SALT LAKE CITY – Great news for hockey fans in Utah this weekend–not only do the Grizzlies have a three-game homestand after being on the road for a few weeks, but the local universities are combining forces to host a tournament with other colleges from all over the country. The 2022 ACHA Beehive Collegiate Hockey Showcase began Thursday, November 17, and will run through Sunday, November 20.

Weber State started off with a big 5-2 win over Montana State at home in Ogden. Utah State followed suit and won their first game 3-1 over Michigan State at Eccles Ice Center in Logan. Unfortunately, not all Utah teams came out on top during the first night of the showcase. Utah Valley took Northern Colorado to overtime, but ultimately fell short and lost 3-2.

The University of Utah has three teams competing in the showcase: Men’s Division 1 (M1), Men’s Division 2 (M2), which are in the same division as the other collegiate Men’s teams in the state, and a Women’s Division 1 (W1) team, which is the only one in the entire state. Utah M2 and Utah W1 both played Thursday night and Friday before Utah M1 made their debut that same Friday night. Utah M2 prevailed in both contests, defeating Grand Canyon University 6-3 on Thursday night and Boise State 8-3 on Friday night. Utah Women’s Hockey started out by dismantling Montana State 16-4 before being halted in a 5-1 loss to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst the following night. Finally, it was Utah M1’s turn to play in front of the home crowd for the Beehive Showcase, taking on division rivals Arizona State and losing in a devastating 2-1 heartbreaker.

Catch all these teams in action the rest of the weekend as the showcase comes to a close. Saturday’s slate features a triple header during which all three of Utah’s teams will play back-to-back-to-back. The Utah M2 and W1 teams will have one additional game Sunday while Weber State hosts Northern Colorado Saturday night and Grand Canyon Sunday afternoon. Utah Valley will play Montana Saturday night before a quick turnaround the next morning against Northern Arizona. Up north, Utah State will take on Grand Canyon Saturday before wrapping up against Wyoming Sunday.
