W1 Nationals Day 1 Recap

TROY, Mich. – (March 16, 2023) – The American Collegiate Hockey Association wraps up day one of the Women’s DI 2023 National Tournament presented by FloHockey.

In the first game of the day, we had Maryville University taking on Arizona State University. The Saints scored their first of the game halfway through the first period. The goal was scored by Sophomore, Addison Cooper, with the assist to Colleen O’Leary. The Saints scored their second and final goal of the game with 27 seconds remaining in the first period. The goal was scored by Junior, Sydney Poisson, with the assists to Emma Gerwitz and Sarah Brooks. Although the  Sun Devils did not get on the scoresheet for goals this game, they outshot the Saints in the third period. Final: Maryville University 2, Arizona State University 0

Indiana Tech took on McKendree University in our second game of the day. The Warriors scored at 13:56 of the first period. It would be the only goal of the game. The goal was scored by Dakota Bowler with the assist from Isobel Pettem-Shand. It was a low shot game with Bearcat goalie, Naomi Leasck, stopping 15 shots and the Warrior goalie, Mackenzie Addley, stopping 12 shots. Final: Indiana Tech 1, McKendree University 0

Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association (CCWHA) members, University of Michigan and Adrian College, were our third game of the day. The Bulldogs scored first. The goal was scored by Taylor Robinson with the assist from Rhea Peterson and Kirsten Horney. After two periods, the bulldogs and wolverines were tied at two each. Wolverine goals were Carla Kolwich from Erin Proctor, and Emily Maliszewski from Kelsey Swanson. The second bulldog goal came from Kaitlyn McNair with the assist from Ashlynn Stitt. The bulldogs would go on to score two unanswered goals in the third period. The goals were scored by Keira Eagleson with the assists from Rhea Peterson and CeCe Werner, and Allison Shaw with the assists from Rhea Peterson and Keira Eagleson. Final: Adrian College 4, University of Michigan 2

The final game of the day was between Minot State University and Miami University. The Beavers would take an early lead with the first goal being scored by Cameron Schmidt with the assist from Riley Ball. The second goal was scored by Jordan Kulbida and was unassisted. Gracie Perry scored the third goal for the Beavers, unassisted. Jordan Kulbida scored the fourth goal with an assist from Megan Norris. Paige Ackerman scored the fifth goal with the assist from Jordan Kulbida. Megan Norris would get the lone goal in the second period with the assist from Paige Ackerman. The Beavers final goal was scored by Riley Ball with the assist from Megan Norris. The Redhawks goalie, Maya Gonzalez, stopped 26 of 33 shots. Final: Minot State University 7, Miami University 0

Our losing teams will get a second chance to make the next round of games. The 10:00 am game will be McKendree University vs University of Michigan.
