W2 Announces National Coach of the Year

Troy, MI — (March 12, 2023) The American Collegiate Hockey Association announced today the
Women's Division 2 National Coach of the Year.  This coach and her staff will be recognized at the Coaching Awards & Hall of Fame Banquet in Bonita Springs, FL on April 28th.

2022/2023 Women's Division 2 National Coach of the Year: Ashley Harper, United States Naval Academy

This year's award goes to the Head Coach of United States Naval Academy, Ashley Harper.   Harper led the Midshipment to a 18-3-1 record and ended the regular season ranked #2 in the Southeast Region and earned a spot in the 2023 National Championship tournament.  One of the best examples of her coaching ability was after seeing the 2022 W2 Player of the Year Julia Chenowith at Goalie after last season, Harper taught a player how to be the netminder and still saw Navy to finish with just one win short of their 21/22 campaign.  Multiple coaches have commented on how Harper cares for more than just her program's success, but the success of all W2 programs.  Many times the first call to get advice, help, and encouragement is the Ashley.  Harper is assisted by Ron Siefert and Paige Hawxhurst.

This is the second National Coach of the Year award for Harper, and the second consecutive for the Navy Head Coach, as she was the recipient of the 21/22 W2 National Coach of the Year Award.  This is the third Coach of the Year award in the Navy Program history, with Joe Vonakis receiving the honor for the 17/18 season.
