FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #15 ranked Indiana Tech Men’s hockey team swept Lawrence Tech this past weekend in a two-game series. They won 5-3 on the road Friday night, and 4-1 at home on Saturday night. This moves their overall record to 14-2-0 and 12-0-0 in conference play.
In game one, Indiana Tech wasted no time opening the scoring as Connor Funke found the back of the net early into the game, assisted by Pavel Svoboda and Aidan Dufort. Lawrence Tech responded on the power play at 4:54 as the teams ended the first period tied 1-1. Indiana Tech regained the lead early in the second period at 0:51, with Funke scoring his second goal of the game, set up by Dufort and Nikita Ivasenko. Lawrence Tech struck back at 13:54, tying the game once again. However, the Warriors responded quickly at 15:24, as Dufort capitalized on a setup by Alex Arnold and Michael Dalaly, giving the Warriors a 3-2 lead heading into the third. In the third period Indiana Tech extended their lead at 9:53, with Alex Arnold scoring his 2nd goal of the season, assisted by Dalaly and Brandon Plummer. Lawrence Tech narrowed the gap to 4-3 at 10:43 but Indiana Tech sealed the game at 19:32 when Malik Ali scored his 10th goal of the season assisted by Ian Vannelli and Joey Mocnik securing their 5-3 victory on the road. Goaltender Gage Reimer played a total of 60 minutes in goal for the Warriors and saved a total of 29 out of 32 shots.
In game two, the scoring began at 5:57 in the second period when Indiana Tech’s Joey Mocnik put the Warriors on the board, assisted by Jeremy Dunmore and Alex Carrothers. They extended their lead to 2-0 at 11:45 with a goal from Sebastian Potter, set up by Ethan Dominy. Lawrence Tech responded quickly, making it 2-1 at 12:38 on a power play. Indiana Tech regained control early in the third period. At 5:52, Mocnik scored his second goal of the game assisted by Ian Vannelli, giving the Warriors a 3-1 advantage. Pavel Svoboda added an unassisted insurance goal at 9:49, extending their lead to 4-1. Indiana Tech secured the 4-1 win at home with goaltender Braedyn Funke playing a total of 60 minutes and saving a total of 20 shots.
The Warriors are back in action after Thanksgiving break as they take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn at home on Friday, December 6th at 7:30pm at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, and on the road in Dearborn (MI) at 7pm on Saturday, December 7th.
