The Wausau Cyclones of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are proud to announce that defenseman Mario Savino has committed to play ACHA Division II college hockey for Lake Superior State University (Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan).
During the 2025-26 season, the Hudson, Wisconsin native proved to be a reliable piece on the back end for the Wausau Cyclones in his third season with the team.
The Wausau Cyclones veteran has played in 120 games with the team across the three seasons and has recorded 45 points. His best offensive season came in 2024-25 when he recorded 20 points in 43 games.
“Mario has been the ultimate teammate and warrior over the last 3 seasons in Wausau. He came to Wausau as a young player, fit in immediately, never complained and worked his butt off. Due to that effort, commitment, and character, he is leaving as one of the best leaders we’ve had in the organization during my time,” said Wausau Cyclones Head Coach Nathan Oystrick.
Savino’s best performance of the season came against the Wisconsin Woodsmen on Sept. 20. In that game Savino recorded a goal and an assist to help his team take the victory on the road.
Savino is one of four players from the Wausau Cyclones to make a college commitment this season.
