Collegiate hockey, a spectator favorite in past years, is back at the Winthrop Rink.

The Collegiate Great Outdoors Classic hockey event on Saturday (Nov. 23) will feature a game between the Washington State University and Western Washington University club teams.

Both teams are members of the Pac-8 division of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), and the games will count in seasonal standings. The ACHA has 450 member teams across the U.S. with divisions for both men and women.

The Pac 8 conference includes schools from most of the Western states and is split into two divisions, north and south. The Cougars are 4-7 on the season, the Vikings are 2-10.

Gates open at 5:45 p.m.; the puck drops at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults; $15 for ages 17 and younger. They are available online at www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/the-collegiate-great-outdoors-classic.

All tickets are general admission. Most spectator viewing areas are standing-room only. The Winthrop Rink has limited seating by request. Email info@winthroprink.org or call (509) 996-4199.

The event is a fundraiser for the rink and for the teams. It will include a beer garden operated by Old Schoolhouse Brewery, a food truck, and merchandise for sale.

Pre-COVID, the rink hosted tournaments involving college teams from around the region.
