The Hope College ice hockey team skated to a pair of season-opening, road shutout wins against Butler University in American Collegiate Hockey Association play this weekend.
The Flying Dutchmen won 7-0 on Friday night at the Fuel Tank in Fishers, Ind., and 10-0 on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, senior goalie Ryan McClelland (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) stopped all 16 Butler shots he faced.
The Flying Dutchmen received goals from six different players, including the game-winner from junior defenseman Nolan Holtrop (Walker, Michigan / Kenowa Hills) and two from sophomore forward Keegan McNamara (Linden, Michigan / Fenton).
Holtrop also chipped in two assists.
Junior defenseman Ian MacDonald (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) added three assists.
On Saturday, sophomore goalie Ander Ciesielski (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Mattawan) recorded an 11-save shutout.
Nine different Flying Dutchmen scored, including freshman right wing Griffin Riemersma (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) with the game-winner and sophomore center Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) with two.
Onstott also had an assist.
Senior right wing Jake Adams (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) finished with a goal and two assists.
Senior defenseman Luke McKinch (Plymouth, Michigan / Plymouth Comprehensive) collected four assists.
Hope’s next ACHA series is the home opener on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 13-14, at 7:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. against Missouri State at Griff’s IceHouse West.
