AMERICAN COLLEGIATE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION RANKING #2 HAS MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY ON TOP WITH PERFECT 9-0-0 RECORD

UNION LAKE, Mich. – (October 18, 2023) – Minot State University (9-0-0), the defending Men’s Division I National Champions of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, received all 31 first-place votes to remain atop the 2023-2024 ACHA Men’s Division I Ranking #2.  The Beavers got three more wins this week in the friendly confines of Maysa Arena by outlasting Missouri State University (5-3), with freshmen Trenton Curtis breaking a 3-3 tie in the third period, and sweeping Waldorf University (9-1, 13-0).  No. 2 Adrian College (5-1-0), Men’s Division I National runners-up in 2023, split its home series at Arrington Arena with No. 4 Liberty University (3-4-1).  The Flames were down 1-0 heading to the third period Friday night before goals by Kam Ottenbreit and Jacob Kalandyk gave the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, 2-1.  The Bulldogs responded on Saturday night by extinguishing the Flames 4-3.  No. 3 Ohio University (4-1-1) traveled to the Maryville University Hockey Center and split its series with No. 9 Maryville University (5-4-0).  The Bobcats shutout the Saints on Friday night 3-0 before the Saints exacted revenge on Saturday coming away with a 3-1 victory.  Rounding out the Top 5 was No. 5 University of Central Oklahoma (6-0-0), which was idle.

 

The Western Collegiate Hockey League leads the way with six (of 10) of its member teams ranked, while Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League has five (of 10) of its member teams ranked, Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League has four (of 8) of its member teams ranked, and both Midwest College Hockey and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference each have three (of 7) of its member teams ranked.

 

Over the past 20 seasons, 12 different schools have won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship: Lindenwood University (4), Minot State University (3), Adrian College (2), University of Central Oklahoma (2), University of Illinois (2), Arizona State University, Davenport University, University of Delaware, Oakland University, Ohio University, Penn State University, and University of Rhode Island.

 

Now in its 33rd season of action, there have been a total of 14 schools that have won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship:

  • Ohio University (4)
  • Minot State University (3)
  • Adrian College (2)
  • North Dakota State University (2)
  • University Central Oklahoma (2)
  • University of Illinois (2)

  • University of Rhode Island

 

A total of 72 teams will compete in Men’s Division I this season, including University of Mary, which moves up from Men’s Division II after winning back-to-back National Championships in 2021 and 2022.

 

The computer ranking, which will not commence until November 1, will for the tenth time determine the 24 teams that qualify for the 2024 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships, which will include the following eight auto bids:

  • (ESCHL) Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League
  • (GLCHL) Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League
  • (MCH) Midwest College Hockey

  • (WCHL) Western Collegiate Hockey League
  • (WHAC) Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference

 

The third ranking of the regular season will be released on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

 

The 2024 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships presented by FloHockey will be hosted March 7-12 for the second time at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.  This will be the first year of the 24-team format.
