ADRIAN, Mich. — The Adrian College American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 men’s hockey program is proud to announce the 2023-2024 roster.
The team recently completed its tryout camp which resulted in great success in determining the 30-man roster. Incoming freshmen include Blake Wideman (Elmira, ON / Waterloo Siskins GOJHL), David Dell (White Lake, MI / Protec Jr Ducks EHL), Caleb Minns (Baxter, ON / Blind River Beavers NOJHL), Jordan Comilla (New Boston, MI / PAL Islanders NCDC), Gavin Watt (Halifax, NS / Amherst Ramblers MHL), Matt Shaw (White Lake, MI / Marian University NCAA), Alex Schaumburger (Canton, MI / Metro Jets USPHL), Peyton Trzaska (Drayton Valley, AB / Princeton Posse KIJHL), Chad Noetzel (Port Huron, MI / Metro Jets USPHL), and Max Cohen (Commerce, MI / Oregon Tradesmen NA3HL).
The ten incoming players will join 20 returners who finished last season with a 37-3-2 record, winning their seventh straight GLCHL Regular Season Championship and coming out on top with the GLCHL Playoff Championship as well, before falling to Minot State University in the ACHA Division National Championship game.
The roster is comprised of six seniors, eight juniors, four sophomores, ten freshmen, and two graduate students. As expected, it features a very diverse group with student-athletes from all over North America, including the state of Michigan (15), Ohio (1), New Jersey (1) and Canadian provinces of Ontario (7), Alberta (3), British Columbia (1), Nova Scotia (1), and Quebec (1).
“I am very happy with our final roster,” said Coach Gary Astalos, who begins his eighth season at the helm of the ACHA MD1 Bulldogs. “It’s very exciting to bring a core group from last season, while also adding some very good freshman. This group is very motivated and I know we are extremely excited to start practicing next week.”
The Bulldogs announced earlier this year that Matteo DiGiulio would wear the “C” and lead the team for the 2023-24 season. The team is also proud to announce that Senior Cameron Armstrong, Graduate Student Sheldon Nolan and Junior Sebastian Smith will wear the “A”‘s on their sweater. “This locker room is genuinely filled with a group full of leaders. We have a team that really cares about each other and who wants to be very successful as a group.” stated Astalos.
The MD1 Bulldogs will open their season on Friday, September 22 with a 7:00 PM puck drop against the University of Cincinnati at the Arrington Ice Arena.
