Rochester, MI- Oakland ACHA DI Hockey head coach Nick Mammel has named former Oakland captain Greg Meuser as an assistant coach. Meuser played at Oakland from 2017-2020. He scored 24 goals and 64 points in 96 games at Oakland.

“I am very excited to have Greg on the staff, as a former player, he knows the level of play we expect here at Oakland. As a captain his leadership will help create the new culture and identity of Oakland hockey.” Oakland head coach Nick Mammel stated.

Meuser a native of Winchester, VA played juniors for the Traverse City Hounds (USPHL). “It’s amazing, and I’m very thankful for the opportunity.” Meuser stated. “I’ve been wanting to help out with the program pretty much since I graduated. There was a lot of momentum with the program from when I was playing, and I feel like Covid took a lot of it away.”

Meuser served as captain for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons and Oakland went 21-10-2 in his season season. “I look forward to learning a lot from Nick, and helping the team get back to the winning ways.” Meuser said.

“I also look forward to being able to help the players off the ice. I was just in their shoes a few years ago, so I will be able to help them with any questions regarding schooling and life after graduation. I’m really excited to be back and can’t wait for the season to start.”
