Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League adds Northwood University and Saginaw Valley State University

The Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL) has added both Northwood University and Saginaw Valley State University as full-time members beginning with the 2024-2025 season.  This will bring the number of teams in the GLCHL to six:

 

  1. Eastern Michigan University           Ypsilanti, Mich.
  2. Northwood University                    Midland, Mich.
  3. Oakland University                       Rochester, MI
  4. Saginaw Valley State University     University Center, Mich.
  5. University of Toledo                      Toledo, Ohio
  6. Western Michigan University          Kalamazoo, Mich.

 

Six member schools have withdrawn their membership effective the end of the current 2023-2024 season, including founding members Adrian College and Davenport University, along with Calvin University, Grand Valley State University, Purdue University Northwest, and Roosevelt University.

 

Northwood University is a private university focused on business education with its main campus in Midland, Michigan, Mich. The college was founded in 1959 and has an enrollment over 1,000.  The Timberwolves call the Midland Civic Center home.  The Timberwolves have been in existence for over 60 years and currently play in the East Division of the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC).

 

Saginaw Valley State University is a comprehensive university with more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs of study for its more than 7,000 students.  The school was founded in 1963 and is in University Center, Mich., about five miles north of downtown Saginaw, Mich.  The Cardinals play home games at Saginaw Bay Ice Arena in Saginaw, Mich. as members of the MCHC in the East Division.  The Cardinals were ACHA Men’s Division III National Champions in both 2009 and 2010.

 

The GLCHL, now in its 14th season of operation, was founded in 2010.
