The Hope College ice hockey team split an ACHA series with the University of Notre Dame — winning 7-0 on home ice on Thursday and losing 4-3 in overtime on the road on Friday.
The Flying Dutchmen are now 7-1 on the season.
On Thursday, freshman center Jake Nanna (Muskegon, Michigan / Mona Shores HS) recorded a hat trick with goals in each period.
Nanna also registered one assist for a four-point game.
Hope also received goals from junior defenseman Nolan Holtrop (Walker, Michigan / Kenowa Hills), sophomore forward Keegan McNamara (Linden, Michigan / Fenton), sophomore center Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) and sophomore defenseman Michael Stechschulte (Rochester, Michigan / Cranbrook Kingwood).
Senior goalie Ryan McClelland (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) posted Hope’s third shutout of the season by making 22 saves.
On Friday, Notre Dame scored twice during the third period to force overtime, then netted the game-winner on a David Kimmel shot 3:23 into the overtime period.
Holtrop, junior defenseman Ian McDonald (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) and freshman center Colton Laufer (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) all scored for Hope.
Junior goalie Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) stopped 16 shots for the Flying Dutchmen.
Hope’s next series is Friday-Saturday, Nov. 3-4, against Oakland University.
The Flying Dutchmen travel to Buffalo Wild Wings Arena in Rochester on Friday for an 8:30 p.m. game. Hope hosts Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. at Griff’s Ice House West.
