LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY HOLDS AT NO. 1 IN AMERICAN COLLEGIATE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION MEN’S DIVISION I RANKING

Lions Games at NCAA Arizona State University Postponed

 

UNION LAKE, Mich. – (January 26, 2022) – Lindenwood University, undefeated on the season with a record of 11-0-0, holds the top spot in the 2021-2022 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men’s Division 1 Ranking No. 14 despite not having played a game since November.  The Lions two scheduled road games at NCAA Division I opponent Arizona State University in Temple, Ariz. were postponed.

 

No. 2 Minot State University (16-2-0) defeated arch-rival University of Jamestown (9-8-4) 2-1 on Saturday night as the two teams celebrated Hockey Day in North Dakota with an outdoor game on the Jamestown campus in Jamestown, N.D.  On Sunday, the Beavers finished off their weekend by blanking Williston State College 6-0.

 

No. 3 Liberty University (15-5-0) and No. 8 Stony Brook University (17-5-2) split a pair of games at the Rinx on Long Island, N.Y.  Saturday, the Seawolves extinguished the Flames 5-0 as Matthew Minerva had a pair of goals, Joseph Slevin tallied 4 assists, and Matvei Kazakov stopped all 36 shots on goal for the shutout.  Sunday, the Flames raced out to a 4-0 lead midway through the game and were able to hold off the Seawolves for the 6-4 win and weekend split.

 

No. 4 University of Nevada-Las Vegas (20-3-0) swept University of Arizona at the Tucson Convention Center in Tucson, Ariz. in a pair of Western Collegiate Hockey League conference games.  Friday night, the Rebels took a 3-1 lead into the third period only to have the Wildcats score two special teams goals in the last 7:59 of regulation to send the game into overtime.  However, Max Johnson notched his 17th goal of the season just 1:39 into the extra session to give the Rebels the 4-3 overtime victory.  Saturday night saw the Wildcats twice take a one-goal lead only to have the Rebels bounce back and skate away with a 5-3 win and the weekend sweep.

 

No. 5 Iowa State University (18-4-2) split a pair of home games against Central States Collegiate Hockey League foe Ohio University at Ames/ISU Ice Arena in Ames, Iowa.  Friday night, the Cyclones struck first blood with a 3-1 victory despite being outshot by the Bobcats 42-35.  Saturday night, the Bobcats finally shook off the bus legs, jumped out to a 3-0 lead, and rolled out of town with a 4-1 victory.

 

Moving into the polls this week is No. 22 Davenport University while Lawrence Tech drops out of the Top 25.

 

The Central States Collegiate Hockey League leads the way with four (of 5) of its member teams ranked, while the Western Collegiate Hockey League has six (of 10) of its member teams ranked, the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League has three (of 6) of its member teams ranked, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference has three (of 7) of its member teams ranked, and Midwest College Hockey has two (of 6) of its member teams ranked.

 

The ACHA uses two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), and comes up with an average of the two rankings.  The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking.  Ties will be broken using the higher ranked team from Ranking B until the Top 25 teams are listed.  All games that go to overtime will be scored as ties in the computer ranking.

 

Over the past 18 seasons, 12 different schools have won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship: Lindenwood (3), Central Oklahoma (2), Illinois (2), Minot State (2), Adrian (2), Arizona State, Davenport, Delaware, Oakland, Ohio, Penn State, and Rhode Island.

 

Now in its 31st season of action, there have been a total of 14 schools that have won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship:

A total of 68 teams will compete in Men’s Division I this season, as four teams have departed Men’s Division I: Cornell University, Penn State Berks, Slippery Rock University, and SUNY Cortland.

 

The computer ranking will for the eighth time determine the 20 teams that qualify for the 2022 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships, which will include the following eight autobids:

  • (WHAC) Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference

 

The fifteenth ranking of the regular season will be released on Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

 

The 2022 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships will be hosted March 10-15 for the first time by the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League and the St. Louis Sports Commission, with the event to be contested at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo. This will be the tenth year of the 20-team format.
