After falling last night to the No. 2 team in the nation, women’s ACHA ice hockey rebounded for a series split with a 3-2 victory over Adrian College Sunday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, Michigan.

In a contest that featured 26 minutes of penalties, the Lions scored first on a power play when Dakota McAlpine fed Tessa O’Connor for a shot that split the pipes at 13:30 of the first.  The lead increased to 2-0 later in the period when Ardyn Hawryshko sounded the horn even strength with her first collegiate goal off a pass from Kennedy Frank at 16:04.  Lindenwood had a chance to build an even bigger margin after drawing another penalty late in the first on a checking penalty, but the Bulldogs had other ideas as they stripped the puck and broke free for a short-handed effort with just 43-seconds remaining.

The score remained 2-1 in favor of the Lions until midway through the second when Frank earned her second point of the game with a goal set up by Risa Shatford and Rylee Gee at 10:02.  Now trailing by two, Adrian increased its pressure.  The result was an offensive output of 19 shots on Lindenwood goaltender Maia Busi in the third period alone.  She only yielded one, however, an unassisted, even-strength tally with 10:15 remaining in regulation.  The Lions resisted any additional comeback efforts, even after the Bulldogs pulled their goalie late.

Adrian outshot Lindenwood 41-23, but Busi stopped 39 of the 41 pucks she faced to earn the win.

With the win, the Lions finished the fall campaign with an overall record of 12-3-1 and a mark of 6-1-1 in Women’s Midwest Collegiate Hockey (WMCH) action.  They return to the ice after the break for a two-game WMCH series against Minot State January 15-16 at home.  The opening faceoff is currently scheduled for 10 p.m. both that Saturday and Sunday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
