M1 Jimmies finish sweep of Colorado State

Morgan Venne (JR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) had two goals and five other players also scored as the eighth-ranked Jimmie hockey team defeated Colorado State University 7-1 Sunday afternoon at Wilson Arena.

Venne had his second straight two-goal game as UJ won for the eighth time in its last nine games.

Reid Wilson (JR/Castlegar, British Columbia) and Jordan Baranesky (FR/Red Lake, Ontario) joined Venne in lighting the lamp in the first period. The Rams tied the game 1-1 at the 5:31 mark but Wilson scored 27 seconds later to break the tie, and Baranesky made it 3-1 at 7:52 of the first.

Venne’s second of the game came at 8:09 of the second, then Andrew Clark (JR/Spokane, Wash.) tallied the first of three straight Jimmie power play goals at 10:24.

Leading 5-1 in the third, Jamestown added two more goals. Zane MacDonald (SR/Minnedosa, Manitoba) and Brad Fortin (FR/Langley, British Columbia) each scored with the Jimmies having the man advantage. UJ finished 3-for-6 on the power play overall.

Shots were 45-25 in favor of the Jimmies. Brandon Weare (FR/Calgary, Alberta) had 24 saves, including 10 in the third period.
