UNION LAKE, Mich. – Maryville University men’s hockey ended the semester as the sixth-ranked program in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The Saints ended December with four straight wins against No. 20 Missouri State University and No. 16 Indiana Tech to move up three spots to the highest computerized ranking in the history of the program.

On Dec. 1, the Saints opened a two-game set with Missouri State with a 6-4 win. Sam Edwards netted a hat trick while Will Smith, Jackson Zloty, and Campbell Mclean all tallied two points. In the second game the next night, Ed Coffey stopped 17 of 18 shots to earn a 3-1 win over the Bears.

In their most recent two-game set against Indiana Tech starting on Friday, Dec. 8, the Saints were led to a 4-1 victory by Coffey’s 19-save performance. Saturday brought another solid outing from the senior netminder as he made 23 saves to back goals from Tj Prexler, Timon Prexler, and Josh Olson.

On the docket for the second semester are No. 1 Minot State, No. 8 Ohio, No. 13 Grand Valley State, No. 14 Arizona, No. 15 Illinois State, and No. 20 Missouri State.

The Saints are back in action at the Maryville University Hockey Center on Friday, Jan. 5th, against the rival Redbirds of Illinois State University. The next computerized rankings will be announced on Jan. 10, 2024.

*The ACHA uses two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with

Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), to

come up with an average of the two rankings. The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking. Ties will be broken using the higher-ranked team from Ranking B until the Top 25 teams are listed. All games that go to overtime will be scored as ties in the computer ranking.
