FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The No. 2 Adrian College Men’s ACHA Division 1 hockey team traveled to Fort Wayne on Friday afternoon for a pre-nationals contest with No. 18 Indiana Tech University. The Bulldogs would defeat the Warriors by a 5-1 score.

The Bulldogs are fresh off being named the No. 2 seed for the ACHA National Championship Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri next month and used this game with ITU as a tune-up for the national stage.

Adrian got off to a quick start on Friday, opening the scoring five minutes in on a goal from captain Matteo DiGiulio, assisted by Caleb Minns and Cyrus Toth. Indiana Tech would answer back a few minutes later to tie it at 1 before Minns scored on the power play off a pass from Justin Jamer to put the Bulldogs up 2-1 after one.

A scoreless second period left the game as it was going into the third period, which resulted in three more tallies for Adrian to go with their steady defensive and goaltending effort. Brodie Thornton would score first on the power play in the third, followed by Cameron Armstrong who tallied short-handed on the breakaway, both within the first six minutes of the final frame. Later on, Matthew DiCesare would add one more for the Bulldogs off the forecheck, thanks to a forced turnover by Jamer and Gavin Watt, making it a 5-1 final score. Adrian netminder, Noah Decottignies, stopped 21 of 22 shots in the victory.

The No. 2 MD1 Bulldogs will now continue their preparation for the ACHA National Championship Tournament which takes place from March 7-12 at the Centene Community Ice Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
