Eugene, Oregon – (March 1, 2023) Both General Manager Craig Thornton and Head Coach Kyler Moore have tendered their notice of resignation as the Duck’s season concluded this past weekend in Victoria, B.C.

“It was an honor to serve the University of Oregon and Ducks Hockey for their Inaugural M1 season, states Thornton. I came into the season with 3 primary goals.

  • Adopt a culture of professionalism to the administra7ve side of the organization.
  • Increase financial stability for long term success at the M1 level via local and national partnerships and donors.
  • Increase our home attendance by growing our fan base with a solid day game experience for the Duck’s fans.

I believe all three goals were accomplished, and just felt it was the right time to move on.”

Thornton put together an impressive opening season schedule with the likes of UNLV, Minot State, UCO, Illinois State and the University of Victoria to name a few. He also increased fan attendance from a nightly average of 250 prior to his arrival to over 1000 per game in one season, including multiple sellouts and an opening night packed house of more than 3200 hosting Arizona State.

In addition, his successful negotiation with Duck-Rides, the University shuttle service to provide student transportation to and from all home games proved to pay significant dividends.

“I want to thank The University of Oregon for the opportunity they bestowed upon me, it was truly an honor and a wonderful experience. I would also like to acknowledge Coach Kyler Moore for the outstanding job he did in his inaugural season, I’m sure he will see opportunities unfold in the future, he’s a very gifted Coach. I wish nothing but the best for the Ducks Hockey program moving forward.”

It is reported that Thornton has received multiple G.M. offers from M1 teams. “I feel extremely humbled that some opportunities at the M1 level have presented themselves that I will discuss with my family, and we’ll take it from there. For now, it’s time for a little break. I’m looking forward to watching an exciting ACHA M1 National Championship series unfold in Boston.”

Kyler Moore, who accepted the position of Head Coach this season coming fresh off his 2nd National championship at the University of Mary where he scored 164 points over his 4-year career also tendered his resignation last Sunday after the team’s final series at the University of Victoria.

“I feel similar to Craig, I just felt the timing was right to move on in my career. I want to thank The University of Oregon hockey program for putting their faith in me to lead their Inaugural M1 season. Oregon is a spectacular college, and it was a great honor and opportunity that I will cherish forever. I look forward to seeing what doors open next.”

The Ducks completed their 30-game inaugural M1 season ranked 37th in the ACHA M1 Division.
