Panthers Hockey open season with sweep at OSU

From Drury Athletics

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The new-look Panthers had a successful season opening weekend under new head coach Jeremy Law, completing a two-game sweep of the Oklahoma State University Cowboys, Sept. 14-15.

Game one was a blowout affair, with lots of Drury newcomers contributing, including a hat trick by freshman Keegan Ferguson, two goals by freshman Ethan O’Rourke and a goal from freshman Jakob Holley. But the returners had a big night as well, with junior Neil Cerrato collecting two goals, while sophomores Patrick Labutis, Louis Fournier and Cody Lourenco each added a goal.

Sophomore goaltender Joshua Robins stopped all 19 shots he faced for the first shutout of his college career.

Game two was altogether different. Despite the Panthers scoring less than a minute into the game, courtesy of Labutis, they wouldn’t score another goal in regulation, instead giving up their first goal of the season, sending the game into overtime and eventually a shootout. In the shootout, Cerrato added his third highlight reel goal of the weekend, while O’Rourke added a goal to seal the win after goaltender Greyson Skirpan stopped the two shots he faced in the shootout.

The Panthers next travel to Milwaukee, WI to take on Marquette University Sept. 21-22.
