GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a two-year hiatus serving as Hockey Recruiting Coordinator for Davenport, Phil Sweeney is heading back to the bench to once again serve as head coach for the ACHA Division I men’s hockey program.

Sweeney built the Panthers into a national contender during his 10 years compiling a record of 226-121-2 with eight seasons of 20-plus victories. The Panthers captured one GLCHL regular season championship in 2015-16 and won the 2012-13 GLCHL Tournament during Sweeney’s second season. The Panthers also made nine consecutive trips to the ACHA National Tournament.

“We are excited to have Phil back on the bench,” said Ryan McCosky, Director of Non-Varsity Sports and Programming. “We have work to do to get this program back to national prominence and I can’t wait to get started. The transition will be smooth as Phil knows the guys in our program having served as the recruiting coordinator for the last two years.”
