Sacred Heart Stands on Top of the First M3 Rankings

Indiana, Pa.- The American Collegiate Hockey Association released its first Men’s Division 3 Ranking for the 22/23 season.   The Pioneers of Sacred Heart reside in the top spot with a 5-2 record, their highest ranking in program history.   Hope College starts their quest to be the second team in Men’s Division 3 to win three consecutive National Championships ranked #5.

Both the Coast Guard Academy and Washington University made strong statements for their ability to contend for the Nationals, coming in #2 and #3 respectively.  The other three teams in last year’s Final Four find themselves spread out through the Top 25. National Runner Up, University of Michigan comes in at #13, University of Arkansas at #9 and Grand Valley State University at #17. Of the 16 teams in last year’s Nationals, nine find themselves in the Top 25 after the first ranking period.

Five different conferences have at least one representative in the Top 25, with the MACHA having the most representatives with six teams.   The Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference had the highest percentage of teams, with four of their seven teams in the Top 25, including the #1 team.

The Top 16 teams will be invited to the Men’s Division 3 Nationals in Marlborough, MA.  in March.  This is the third year that Men’s Division 3 has used a National Ranking to determine the representatives for the National Tournament.  The next ranking is scheduled to be released on November 18th.
