San Diego State University and Northern Arizona University To Join Western Collegiate Hockey League In 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (November 15, 2023) – The Western Collegiate Hockey League (“WCHL”) announces that San Diego State University (San Diego, CA) and Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff, AZ) have been admitted as members of the WCHL beginning with the 2024-2025 season.

 

San Diego State University currently plays in Men’s Division 1 in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (“ACHA”) as an Independent.  Northern Arizona University currently fields two teams in the ACHA, one of which plays in Men’s Division 2 while the other team plays in Men’s Division 3.

 

San Diego State and Northern Arizona will be joining ten WCHL member teams in 2024-2025:  University of Arizona (Tucson, AZ), Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ), University of Central Oklahoma (Edmond, OK), University of Colorado (Boulder, CO), Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO), Grand Canyon University (Phoenix, AZ), Missouri State University (Springfield, MO), University of Nevada-Las Vegas (Las Vegas, NV), University of Oklahoma (Norman, OK), and University of Utah (Salt Lake City, UT).

 

With the addition of San Diego State and Northern Arizona, WCHL teams will be split into two divisions for scheduling purposes.  Arizona, Arizona State, Grand Canyon, Nevada-Las Vegas, Northern Arizona, San Diego State and Utah will comprise one division while Central Oklahoma, Colorado, Colorado State, Missouri State and Oklahoma will be in the other division.

 

All WCHL teams are expected to play a 20-game regular season conference schedule.  The WCHL Regular Season Champion will be determined on a points basis. The WCHL Regular Season Champion will be awarded the WCHL’s autobid to the ACHA Men’s Division 1 National Championships presented by FloHockey.
