Sault College women’s hockey open regular season with two wins

The women’s hockey team made noise on opening weekend, scoring 21 goals in two games against Northern Michigan University.

Veteran Captain Olivia Barsanti and first-year forward Kayla Redsky led the Cougars, scoring seven of the 10 goals in Saturday afternoon’s game. Emma Lee, Jaydin Neveau and Meagan Daley also found the net in the 10-1 win.

The Cougars outshot the Wildcats 71 to 18. Cassidy Dobson recorded her first regular season win, stopping 17 shots.

In game two, Redsky recorded her second hattrick of the weekend. First-year players Camille Venn, Stephanie Pagnotta, and Alexis Armitage all netted their first career goals. Marie-Pier Lecours, Jasmine Groleau, Erika Beitz, Barsanti and Lee also added a goal each.

The Cougars outshot the Wildcats 70 to 20. Emily Hansen recorded her first regular season win with 18 saves.

Next action for the Cougars is this weekend when they face the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Oct. 22 (3:30pm) and Oct. 23 (11:30am) at the Big Bear Arena.
