Seven goals for Jimmies in shutout of Waldorf

Reid Wilson scored two goals and assisted on another, and five other players recorded a goal as the seventh-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men’s hockey team blanked Waldorf (Iowa) University 7-0 Saturday afternoon at John L. Wilson Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Alek Erichuk netted the first of four UJ goals in the opening 20 minutes, needing just 56 seconds to make it 1-0 with assists by Wilson and Jake Huculak.

Carter Johnson doubled the Jimmie lead at 2:44 of the first, assisted by Philippe Lessard and Jordon Kromm.

Wilson pushed the score to 3-0 at 8:05 on assists from Brad Fortin and Erichuk. Just over two minutes later, Greg Susinski’s goal made it 4-0. Carter Johnson and Wyatt Johnson got the assists.

Wilson had the only goal of the second period, scoring at 3:15 from Fortin and Huculak as Jamestown led 5-0 entering the third.

Morgan Venne’s power play goal at 12:28 came on assists from Jordan Baranesky and Fortin, then with 1:18 remaining, Fortin tacked on the final Jimmie goal, assisted by Venne and Brandon Weare.

FOR THE JIMMIES

Weare stopped all 20 shots he faced for his second consecutive shutout.

Eleven different players registered a point Saturday, equaling Friday’s scorers.

Jamestown finished with 67 shots overall, 25 of them coming in the third period.

The Jimmies were 3-for-3 in killing off penalties.

FOR THE WARRIORS

Gage Reimer had 60 saves while making his second collegiate start.

Makenna Asher passed out 21 assists.

Waldorf is now 0-15 against Jamestown, including seven shutout losses.
