Seventh-ranked Jimmies salvage weekend split with shutout of No. 15 Illinois State

The seventh-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men’s hockey team recorded their third shutout in their last four games, defeating No. 15 Illinois State University 8-0 Saturday evening at John L. Wilson Arena.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jamestown led 2-0 after one period thanks to goals by Greg Susinski and Carter Johnson.

The floodgates opened in the second period as the Jimmies scored five goals in a span of 11:04 to take a 7-0 lead going into the third.

Jordan Baranesky lit the lamp twice while Logan Berggren, Brad Fortin, and Morgan Venne also added to the goal tally in the second.

Johnson finished off the scoring in the third period, joining Baranesky as multiple-goal scorers.

 

FOR THE JIMMIES

Brandon Weare stopped all 27 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season.

Venne, Reid Wilson, Zane MacDonald, and Jake Huculak all had two assists.

Fortin, Susinski, Baranesky, Berggren, and Brenden Vulcano each had one assist.

The Jimmies were 4-for-11 on the power play.

 

FOR THE REDBIRDS

Michael Lenhart had 60 saves in goal.

Illilnois State went 0-for-2 on the power play.

 

UP NEXT

Jamestown (3-2, 3-1 MCH) plays its first road series of the season at Northern Illinois University beginning October 13.
