Fairfield, CT- Over the summer D2 Club Hockey team had one of their own play overseas. Christos Caminis who was just recently named captain for the upcoming 23-24 season had the opportunity to play overseas, joining the Greek national team. The team competed in a tournament in Montreal Canada.

We got the chance to interview Christos and ask him a couple of questions about his experience. Here is that interview:

How did you come to the decision to play for the team?

Playing for your country’s National team was not a decision that took me a while to make. Growing up Greek and having all my family members speak and embody the culture was an amazing experience. Although playing hockey, there was not a great correlation between the two. Not many people from Greece truly understood or followed the game. This was a perfect opportunity to help build the connection between the Greek community and the Sport we love. Greek Ice hockey is rebuilding its program so that Ice Hockey can become a bigger part of the Greek community, with its goal being to make its way back into the IIHF.

Being afforded the opportunity also granted me the chance to meet other hockey players of Greek descent from different parts of the US and Canada. As well as playing in front of my immediate and extended family in Montreal, where the showcase was, as well as where most of my family resides.

This was a great experience where I saw a true passion for Ice hockey and the Greek community come together.

How has club hockey helped you with your play at a higher level?

Playing at this level was a great experience and brought a wide array of players all on the same sheet. Although playing club hockey has helped prepare me for that moment, with our great practice regiments and competitive schedule. It was a smooth transition to compete at that level.

What did you learn that you can share and teach with the club team this year?

The biggest takeaway from this experience was that when we can all come together and play for something that we all care about, the results are effective. I know that if we can emulate this sense of pride in the next coming season and the seasons following, there is no telling what we can do.
