Women’s Division 2 Announces National Coach of the Year

Troy, MI. (4/5/24) The Women’s Division 2 of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) is proud to announce Maddy Maloney, Head Coach of the Adrian College Bulldogs, as the recipient of the 2023-24 National Coach of the Year.

Maloney led the Bulldogs to an impressive 14-6-1 record during the 23-24 season, her third season as part of the Adrian coaching staff and second season as head coach, including finishing the regular season in the top 20% for overall points (29) and top 25% of goals (86) across the division. The well-coached Bulldogs players were also recognized this season, including forward Jordin Giove named to the Women’s D2 Second Team All Athletic.

The team’s regular season success ultimately secured Adrian a #3 ranking position in the Central Region heading into the 2024 Women’s Division 2 National Championships, where Maloney and assistant coach Hannah Chase supported the team’s strong performance. Adrian headed home after pool play having won two of three games in St. Louis.

Fellow opponents of Adrian are quick to highlight how Maloney always has her team ready to play, they are a well coached group, and remain competitive year after year. It’s clear to the rest of the division that hockey is a passion of hers, and her contributions not only elevate her team to a higher level, but their conference and the ACHA division as well. Maloney’s leadership is especially evident through her ability to balance coaching alongside her position as a Divisional Commissioner for the CCWHA, a role she was brand new to coming into the 23-24 season.

Having graduated from Adrian College in 2021 with her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Maloney has since earned certifications in Personal Training and Sports Nutrition. During her time at Adrian, Maloney spent two seasons as a defenseman for the ACHA Division I team where she totaled 25 points in 53 appearances. Prior to Adrian College she attended Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts where she made 52 career appearances for the Hawks’ NCAA Division III hockey team.

This award marks Maloney's first National Coach of the Year honor and adds to the rich legacy of women’s ice hockey excellence at Adrian College. Her dedication to the sport, her players, and to the ACHA exemplifies the highest standards of coaching in collegiate hockey.

The ACHA congratulates Coach Maloney on this well-deserved honor and looks forward to her continued success in the future.
