#20 Purdue Northwest Sweeps #16 Lawrence Tech, Sets Sights on Adrian College

The #20 Purdue Northwest ACHA DI Hockey opened the new 2023-24 season with a weekend home series sweep of #16 Lawrence Tech defeating the Blue Devils on Friday, 7-1, and the following day on Saturday in a hard-fought battle, 6-3.

Game 1

Inside The Numbers

Junior Sam Bourdages (Hearst, Ontario/) led the Pride scoring two goals.

Sophomore Michael Clough (Andover, Minn./), freshman Max Beller (Sioux City, Iowa), freshman Jared Topil (Lincoln, Neb.), and sophomore Hayden Masloski (Andover, Minn./) each added one goal and one assist.

Junior Jacob Toland (Ashburn, Ontario/) chipped in a goal for Purdue Northwest.

Freshman Cooper Olson (Maple Grove, Minn./) played all 60 minutes in frame for the Pride and racked up 38 saves.

Sean Pilet scored the lone goal for Lawrence Tech.

Brett Tome and Noah Brandau both played in goal for the Blue Devils and made a total of 36 stops.

The Breakdown

The Pride started the scoring in the first period netting three goals and taking a 3-0 lead after the one.

Purdue Northwest scored three more goals to extend their lead to 6-0 with four minutes remaining in the second.

Lawrence Tech scored their lone goal in the late stages of the second period to make the score 6-1.

The Pride netted one final goal in the third period to make the final score, 7-1.

Game 2

Inside The Numbers

Freshman Chase Solberg (Anchorage, Alaska) and sophomore Carter Hobbs (Des Moines, Iowa/) led the Pride with one goal and one assist each.

Senior Craig Herman (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS), freshman Dave Anderson (Carrolton, Texas), Topil, and Masloski each netted one goal apiece during the game..

Olson played all 60 minutes in goal once again for the Pride. He recorded 29 saves.

Thimo Ey, Drake Barnish, and Liam Bland each scored a goal for Lawrence Tech.

Tome played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Blue Devils and recorded 19 stops.

The Breakdown

The Pride started off the scoring in the first period with an Anderson goal six minutes in to take a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Devils tied it up 1-1 a few minutes later in the first.

Purdue Northwest took a 2-1 lead heading into the end of the first period after a goal from Topil.

Each team scored two goals in the second period and saw the Pride take a slim 4-3 lead after two periods.

The Pride finished the game scoring two more goals in the third period to put away Lawrence Tech in the end, 6-3.

The Pride next take on nationally ranked Adrian College in a home-and-home series starting when Purdue Northwest travels to Adrian, Michigan on Thursday, September 28 starting at 7:30 p.m. central time. The Pride then host the Bulldogs in primetime action on Saturday, September 30 with puck-drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. central time at The Kube.
